The house and site for this pool project was a Tudor house from the 1930’s.  Expanded and modernized extensively by the Homeowners before they moved in in 2007, the house sits on a private, gently-sloping 2 acre lot in Westchester County, New York.  We approached the project in 2014 with the concept of creating a separate “weekend getaway” on the existing lot, and we sited the new pool, an in-ground hot tub, and a modest changing room on the far end of the house away from the main living spaces of the house – the great room, kitchen, and breakfast area. We took advantage of an existing sunroom and trellised outdoor area that was rarely used, and we were able to ground this new escape away from the everyday living spaces.

This project replaced an old, dark, small pool house with a new structure where the Homeowners could spend a more significant amount of time nearly year-round.  In addition, they wanted to bring the architecture of the pool house into keeping with their love of what could be called a Williamsburg-style architecture.  We razed the existing structure and designed a building with a large open covered porch, a generous full kitchen, an area adequate for living and for dining as well as a changing room and bath for the pool.  The details brought together a historic color palette along with appropriate hardware and lighting details to create a warm, peaceful environment for them all year round. We also addressed an old horse barn on the property and tied the buildings together with a beautifully manicured landscape.
